The Route

Following the Trade Winds
The route starts from San Sebastian, La Gomera and will follow a similar route to that taken by Christopher Columbus, finishing 3000 miles away at Nelsoms Dockyard, Antigua. By choosing this route, Bhavik will take advantage of the trade winds prevaling in the mid atlantic.

Bhavik will be travelling from the Canary Islands through Trade Winds Zone 1, Trade Winds Zone 2 and finishing in the Minor Antilles.

According to the official ocean rowing guidelines, "a crew or solo rower may start from the continental coastline at any point in Europe or Africa, or their islands. Departures from Cape Verde will be recognized as an Atlantic Crossing with the words "shortened crossing" added to the official listings. This is in recognition of the fact, that leaving from Cape Verde shortens the traditional rowing distance by approximately 600 miles. To qualify for the Ocean Rowing Blue Riband record the crew or solo ocean rower must start at any point in the Canary Islands.
